Memories of Liverpool by Martin Stuart Moore

Stuart’s first print of Liverpool sold out very quickly in 1995, but he only managed to get back for a second view of the city twenty years later. By that time the waterfront had changed dramatically with the Museum of Liverpool and Mann Island development making a significant impact.

Since his first print Stuart has increased the size of his compositions and thus in the new one he has been able to add 40% more buildings and landmarks. His viewpoint was again from the Mersey side of the city as the land rises gently inland which eases compositional issues. He could give far more detail to the cathedrals, more context to Albert Dock, and was able to give Lime Street Station a significant presence. The city’s passenger port history again allowed him to introduce Cunard liners and shipping associated with the Isle of Man and Ireland.

As always, Stuart’s composition springs from his imagination but is rooted in the geographical realities of the Liverpool cityscape. The original watercolour painting has been scanned and printed as a limited edition, each signed and numbered by the artist. Liverpool was granted city status in 1880 and this date was chosen as the edition number. They measure approximately 20 by 30 inches and have been reproduced using light fast inks on acid free paper. A key to the landmarks and certificate of authenticity is supplied with every print.
