Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Jannice Lazzarich spent most of her life experiencing all that Southern Africa has to offer.
Having spent 23 years as a Graphic Designer working in Ad Agencies, it was 16 years ago that Janice decided to take the plunge and become a full-time artist.
Painting mainly in oils Janice loves to paint figurative work, but also does a lot of still life, landscape, pet portraits and wildlife.
"I always do abstract work when I'm stuck or blocked...it is always interesting to see what happens on the canvas. I am inspired by abstract and keep trying to break my paintings down to more abstract shapes. I have always painted in an impressionistic style, but I still want to move to even more colour and atmosphere, painted with ever increasing separate brush strokes. I always paint from life, where possible, as it's easier to get the essence of a person or the atmosphere of a place when confronted with reality."
"My inspiration came from my wonderfully talented father, Neil Pedersen, my father's incredibly talented friend and illustrator Angus MacBride, and my fabulously talented art teacher, Ryno Swart who spent many years reading to us from John Ruskin's books and teaching us the classic art of painting."
Janice was also involved in illustrating a series of 28 children’s books based on African animals. Four of these are in print, ABC's from the Wild's of Africa, ABC's Colouring Book, The Aardvarks Nose, and Bakuna's Babies.
Janice now lives in Northern England with her husband and son.
